I always think that unless it is a medical problem, you can just walk away. Quitting your job or leaving your wife is always going to be better than suicide.
It was fairly low stakes, but I did once just walk out of a situation, turn off my phone, went to a nice hotel in a nearby business park and bought toothbrushes and t-shirts for three days. I feel it has given me a useful escape valve, I know I can utilise in a dangerous situation.
My "hot take" is that you can always try drugs as a last resort. I tried MDMA once when I was young and it is very hard for me to imagine one can still feel depressed under that effect.
“But you belong to God, my dear children. You have already won a victory over those people, because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world.”
I spent my thirties and forties in off the charts clinical depression. These are all good, and after that, in my experience, you just have to age out of it
Someone told me years later I saved them, back in my gaming and teamspeak days by making the point that you will be dead forever, no matter what. If there would just one day in your future when you are truly happy, wouldn’t it be worth it? So why waste it? Writing that out, it seems a weird argument, but it was what it was. Maybe it was just someone listening to him and taking him serious. I like your list.
I can't say if its a good world or bad. However, it is an interesting world and a burning sense of curiousity sustains me. What if I died and the next day something interesting happened?
This article is funny and it's all good advice. Having said that, I would definitely read the 20000 words of a 3-part essay or literature review version from you, I think there is a romantic attraction to Freitod that you aren't quite able to spell out / dispell in this one yet.
PS if you put a black tea bag in your coffee you can choose life *and* be true to the Anglo way, you heard it here first.

OK
New York Lotto used to have a slogan-You gotta be in it to win it.
I think that’s true about life.
Show up.
That’s basically everything.
Good results come over time.
Just keep showing up.
You don’t need to be a ten.
You just need to be there.
Show up.
Don’t give up.
I think that that’s like 90% of life.
100%
One foot in front of the other.
Razors pain you;
Rivers are damp;
Acids stain you;
And drugs cause cramp.
Guns aren’t lawful;
Nooses give;
Gas smells awful;
You might as well live.

Postponement really does work. Just have to do it long enough and then you feel ok to cancel. You really must postpone.

Choose coffee is underrated advice. My dad raised five boys. We were not easy. He drank a lot of coffee. He’s now 85.

What a compliment, asking for the 20k version of the thing! I have a 10k version of another thing done…
Good stuff.
