A question from a NZ reader. There is an public event being organized in Auckland this Sunday to show support for our Jewish community and against antisemitism. Is it useful for me to go? Does such a gesture (which feels theatrical perhaps) serve a real purpose?

Your story of the separate world your parents arrived in, is what runs in my mind too. Almost every Jew has fled to our golden soil away from hardship and violence in our young history, and we’ve traded that prosperity for multiculturalist terror?
I have often gone to the sole Georgian restaurant in this state, maybe country, and the proprietor there is a Georgian Jew like yourself who fought in the ‘82 Lebanon war. He has told me how often Muslims come to his business to tear down his mezuzah or harass him. And I just can’t believe he left the Soviet Union only to find this hatred. It seems like things are going to get worse before we reconsider the trajectory of this country. Jews are hemmed in from all sides.
In Australia our governments, of all sides, have a deep culture of hiding information. We are only imbeciles to them and they decide what we can and cannot know. We genuinely have a swamp. It will be highly disturbing to them that there is multiple video footage. In the old days they would have confiscated it, this is why they have introduced laws to restrict Australians access to the digital world. The last mass shooting in 1996 the alleged "preparator" was sent to jail for life without a trial ALL the evidence is held in secret for 80 years, I kid you not. You will never be allowed to know what happened at Bondi im afraid.
Some choices should have been made much earlier such as not letting a person whose family is being monitored by ASIO buy six guns. What did they think we wanted them for? Shooting foxes in Bonnyrigg?
As you were a month ago, “I remain optimistic about Australia. But the future is up to us, and Australians have a choice to make about what kind of society they want to become, and the kinds of evil they let fester here.”
In our grief, we need infectiously optimistic leaders like you.
