Great article! Things that stood out to me was your clear explanation that without native allies the conquistadors might have not gotten far, (btw I read a book in 3rd grade that said that Cortes and 300 men conquered Mexico), how many saw them as liberators to an oppressive regime, and how the conquistadors all met dishonorable ends.

Thanks for writing this!

Cortes is particularly interesting to me as he was wily, brave and tactful. How incredible his ability to understand and extract the most of the native partitions? His cunning and leadership are undeniable, but in the end he was rejected by the christian society, in my opinion, due to their shame in the ransacking and extirpating of the native sovereigns and culture. He was able to win the battles in foreign lands, but lost the war of politics at home.
