The world is cruel, a man’s job is to be hard in the face of disappointment, not give in to the beta impulse.

To bleed when pricked is no “beta impulse”

When I started banking, the head of the division spoke to us in his surly American Armenian accent

“Life is a banker is a life of disappointment after disappointment. In one month you should expect 2 good days. So you better hope your first 2 days in the month aren’t good!”

i have a 3-year-old boy and 2-year-old girl... she is going to be something. how do you decide when to step in versus letting life come at them? right now i can judge by decibel level and tears, but the psychological stuff is going to be hard. i dont want richard calling my son a beta, or my daughter to be a mean girl. im having a hard time with figuring out what to takeaway from this

Sweet boy! Re: Armenian banker, reminds me of the great quote from Deadwood: "In life you have to do a lot of things you don't f***ing want to do. Many times, that's what the f*** life is: one vile f***ing task after another. But don't get aggravated... then the enemy has you by the short hairs."

Not sure that sounds like a good career--only 2 good days out of 30. But maybe the Armenian American banking manager is just gloomy and inaccurate.

You don’t have to live your life that way. I have been in banking for over 10 years.

Godspeed! (I left banking almost 10 years ago)

Smart. Good to know you didn’t put up with a career that only offers 2 good days a month

No, I now insist on at least 3...
